The Maldives Police Service has launched an enhanced traffic management plan for the Sinamalé Bridge highway aimed at improving road safety and easing congestion across the capital's busiest roads.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed launched the Traffic Enhancement Plan during a ceremony held at Iskandhar Koshi. The plan sets out how police officers assigned to traffic duties on the highway will operate under the enhanced enforcement initiative.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner said the number of officers deployed for traffic operations has been increased and instructed police to strengthen enforcement efforts to improve road safety. He also directed officers to prioritise the most congested areas of Malé City and focus on reducing inconvenience faced by the public.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry and commissioned officers from the Traffic and Road Management Department attended the launch.
The Traffic and Road Management Department said police will continue to maintain a presence in other parts of Malé City in addition to the highway to minimise disruption and improve traffic flow across the capital.
Police also said recruitment is underway to increase staffing within the Traffic and Road Management Department in efforts to further strengthen traffic management operations.
