Police recover over MVR 826,000 lost in theft and burglary cases

The Maldives Police Service recovered more than MVR 826,000 from money lost in theft and burglary cases reported last week and returned it to its rightful owners.

Statistics released by the Maldives Police Service show a total of MVR 838,434 was reported lost in theft and burglary cases recorded in Malé between 5 and 11 of this month. The reported losses included MVR 26,335 in cases handled by the Airport and Tourist Police, MVR 200,578 in Henveiru Police Station cases, MVR 203,968 in Galolhu Police Station cases, and MVR 407,553 in Maafannu Police Station cases.

Police said more than 98 per cent of the reported losses had been successfully recovered, amounting to MVR 826,730. Of the recovered amount, MVR 26,335 was recovered by the Airport and Tourist Police, MVR 175,250 by Henveiru Police Station, MVR 225,215 by Galolhu Police Station, MVR 396,888 by Maafannu Police Station, and MVR 3,042 by Vilimalé Police.

The Police said it continues to prioritise recovering money lost in such cases as quickly as possible and returning it to its rightful owners. The service added that it remains committed to preventing crime, ensuring public safety, and maintaining public confidence in policing.
