Ibrahim Luthufee ---
Former political activist Ibrahim "Sandhaanu" Luthufee has accused former President Mohamed Nasheed of being behind an alleged attack against him in Basel, Switzerland.
In a series of Facebook posts, Luthufee claimed the incident took place at around 10:00 a.m. last Saturday. He alleged that the assault was carefully planned and carried out by individuals who had been paid by Nasheed.
Luthufee also published photographs of two individuals he alleged were involved in the attack, as well as a list of Maldivians whom he claimed had participated in organising it.
Luthufee is widely known for his role in publishing Sandhaanu, a magazine critical of the government during the administration of former President Uz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. He was also among the leading figures in the political movement that sought democratic reforms in the Maldives during the early 2000s.
After serving part of a life sentence, Luthufee was released and left the Maldives. He later sought political asylum in Switzerland, where he has since resided.
During Nasheed's presidency, Luthufee became a vocal critic of the administration and supported opposition activities. Following Nasheed's resignation in 2012, he held several senior government positions under the administration of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan. He also worked on former President Abdulla Yameen's 2013 presidential election campaign.
Luthufee's allegations have not been independently verified. Former President Nasheed has not publicly responded to the claims at the time of publication.
