A consultation meeting has been held to discuss measures to strengthen safeguarding and ensure a safer environment for children and athletes in sports.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, was attended by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu, senior ministry officials, representatives of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) and UNICEF Maldives.

The ministry said discussions focused on safeguarding measures, with particular attention given to child safeguarding in sport to protect children from potential harm and athlete safeguarding. Participants also discussed a broader range of measures aimed at strengthening safeguarding within the sporting environment.

The meeting also included discussions on ways institutions could work together to improve safeguarding and raise awareness to help create a safe environment for children participating in sports.
