Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said work on 18 Islamic sector projects is expected to be completed before the start of next Ramadan.

In a message shared with the media, the minister said that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has given special attention to the completion of Islamic sector projects. He said the projects scheduled for completion before Ramadan include 16 mosques and two Quran Centre branch projects.

Minister Dr Shaheem also said efforts are underway to open the permanent mosques being developed in Hulhumalé through partnerships between the Government and private parties before the end of this year. He added that the temporary mosques in Hulhumalé will be removed once the permanent mosques are opened. At the same time, some waqf projects are also expected to be completed in the latter part of next year.

The minister said that work is currently underway on 79 Islamic sector projects. These include the construction of 45 mosques, 12 Islamic centres, 16 Quran centres and six waqf building projects.
