President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday announced the establishment of the "National Sports Fund."

This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on November 4, 2024, following thorough discussions on a proposal put forth by Abdulla Rafiu, the Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation.

The National Sports Fund is designed to increase the number of players and athletes in the country, improve sports facilities, and empower the local sporting community. This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture and promoting athletic talent across the Maldives.

To facilitate the establishment of the fund, the Cabinet also resolved to implement necessary amendments to the Sports Act, ensuring that the framework supports the fund's objectives. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in nurturing future athletes and enhancing the overall quality of sports in the nation.
