First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has urged Maldivians to ensure the sacrifices made by the nation's forefathers to secure independence are passed on to future generations.

In a message shared on social media to celebrate the Maldives' 61st Independence Day, the First Lady extended her greetings and said the country enjoys the blessings of freedom because of the sacrifices made by previous generations. She said it was the responsibility of every citizen to ensure children understand the history and sacrifices behind the nation's independence.

She also called for nurturing courage, patriotism and resilience among young people to safeguard the country's freedom, while stressing the importance of raising a generation guided by knowledge and strong moral values. The First Lady concluded her message with a prayer for Allah to grant success in achieving those goals.
