President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the creation of the "National Sports Fund" during a cabinet meeting on November 4, 2024, following a proposal from Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu. The fund aims to increase the number of athletes, improve sports development, and empower the local sporting community in the Maldives. To support this initiative, the Cabinet also plans to amend the Sports Act, ensuring a strong framework for the fund's establishment.
