North Mahchangolhi MP Ibrahim Mohamed has lauded President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's zero-tolerance policy on corruption, highlighting it as a defining trait of his leadership.
Speaking on MMTV’s Bodu Khabaru programme, MP Ibrahim criticised the previous administration, led by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for allegedly failing to address rampant corruption and theft during its tenure.
MP Ibrahim accused the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) of misleading the public with promises to curb corruption, only to oversee alleged cases of misuse of state funds.
He cited releasing state funds for resort renovations under the guise of COVID-19 facility development and overseas travel by officials facing misconduct allegations. He also criticised the distribution of land in Hulhumalé and compensation payments amounting to millions of rufiyaa, which he described as blatant corruption.
MP Ibrahim highlighted that President Dr Muizzu's Administration has implemented firm measures to eliminate corrupt practices, ensuring accountability at all levels. He expressed appreciation for the president's proactive approach to addressing and resolving allegations of misconduct, describing it as a form of leadership that aligns with public expectations.
In a recent interview, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s strong stance against corruption, promising that no individual involved in such acts would remain protected.
MP Ibrahim described the president’s declaration as a vital message to safeguard public property and restore confidence in governance.
MP Ibrahim concluded by stating that the current Administration, alongside People’s National Congress (PNC) lawmakers, is united in its effort to prevent corruption and uphold transparency in Government operations.
