First Russian Consul General to Maldives presents credentials

Aleksei M. Idamkin officially presented his Consular Commission Letter to Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on December 23, 2024, marking his appointment as the first Consul General of the Russian Federation to the Maldives.

This significant event underscores the strengthening of diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

Russia is the second-largest source of tourists to the Maldives, highlighting the importance of this new diplomatic post. Idamkin’s role will focus on fostering closer economic partnerships and expanding cooperation in various sectors, including tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.

Minister Dr Khaleel commended the appointment, recognising its potential to advance mutual interests and bolster bilateral ties.

The establishment of the Russian Consulate General to Maldives is expected to enhance collaboration in economic, cultural, and diplomatic fields, providing a foundation for future growth.
