Senior Political Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, Aminath Zoona, emphasised the importance of addressing the previous government's record while discussing current progress.
Speaking at a gathering of the Progressive National Congress (PNC) on the night of December 23, she outlined what she described as significant failings of the previous administration's governance, particularly focusing on economic and social issues.
According to Zoona, the current Administration has made progress in multiple areas, including public health initiatives such as vaping restrictions, and improvements to public facilities. She highlighted several initiatives of the current Administration, including efforts to address the expatriate worker situation, youth development programmes, and the launch of bunkering services in Ihavandhippolhu.
She further claimed the former government's policies had severely impacted small and medium enterprises, citing the current state of businesses along Majeedhee Magu as evidence. She also expressed concerns about what she characterised as deteriorating social conditions during the previous administration's tenure.
Zoona drew parallels between historical political transitions and the recent election of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, whom she credited with implementing positive changes. She specifically noted the enhanced maintenance of the Galolhu Stadium as an example of improved public facility management.
The Senior Political Director concluded by contrasting the approaches of the current and former administrations, while criticising the opposition's response to ongoing Government initiatives.
