The Maldives Police Service conducted a raid at the home of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, former Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), in connection with irregular land plot allocations under the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya scheme.

During the early morning operation on December 24, officers executing a court-authorised search warrant seized several electronic devices and other items as part of a joint investigation with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Fazul has been accused of granting land to his brother Ibrahim Fazeel Rasheed through the Binveriya scheme, even though he did not qualify for it and was not on the official list of recipients.

Fazul stepped down from his position as Managing Director on December 21, while authorities imposed travel bans on more than 20 individuals connected to the case, including staff members from both HDC and the Housing Ministry. HDC also dismissed 15 employees to ensure the integrity of the investigation.

Following these developments, Mohamed Mauroof Jameel was appointed as the new Managing Director of HDC on December 22.
