The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy recently facilitated the participation of three professionals in a specialised training programme on "Sustainable Coastal Protection Measures for Island Countries," held from November 24 to December 19, 2024 in Japan.
The programme was designed to enhance expertise in planning, designing, and implementing sustainable coastal protection measures. Participants explored both structural solutions, such as beach nourishment, and non-structural strategies, benefiting from a comprehensive curriculum that included case studies on successful and unsuccessful coastal protection efforts.
Following their return, the participants presented individual action plans to the Ministry's Coastal Section staff and other technical experts. These sessions served as a platform to share actionable insights, encourage constructive dialogue, and collaboratively identify practical steps for applying sustainable coastal protection measures in the Maldives.
By equipping its technical workforce with advanced knowledge and strategies, the Ministry aims to enhance coastal resilience and promote sustainable development across the region.
