The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has imposed a fine on Emerald Resort Private Limited for carrying out expansion works of Olhuveli Beach and Spa Resort without completing the required Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process.

Following an investigation into the expansion activities, the Agency concluded that the company had breached environmental regulations under the Environmental Protection Act and Preservation Act (4/93)

As a result, the company was fined MVR 20,000 on December 11, 2024. The EPA confirmed that the company has since settled the fine in full.

Additionally, the agency advised the company to ensure compliance with all requirements under the EIA process for any future projects.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a Government body responsible for protecting, conserving, and managing the environment and biodiversity in the Maldives. It operates under the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.
