The National Disaster Management Council has officially endorsed the Maldives Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy 2024-2030, aimed at safeguarding the country's environment, people, and infrastructure from climate hazards and other disasters.

Chaired by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the meeting on December 24, 2024, underscored the importance of strengthening the nation's disaster risk management efforts, emphasising the need for mitigation and human resource development to create a more resilient and prepared Maldives.

A key section of the strategy aims to improve disaster resilience and operational efficiency through the newly established Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Strategy and the ongoing development of the National Adaptation Plan, which aligns with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Formulated with the unique challenges of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in mind, the strategy reaffirms the Maldives' commitment to global climate advocacy.
