Two Indian nationals have been arrested at Velana International Airport on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives.

The arrests were made following a special operation conducted by Customs Maldives based on suspicious activities observed during the suspects' arrival in the Maldives.

The suspects were found with a significant quantity of drugs concealed in their luggage, indicating intent for drug trafficking. Following their arrest, they were presented before the Criminal Court for remand.

During the hearing, the suspects claimed the drugs did not belong to them, alleging that someone else had handed the items over.

Despite their claims, the court, after reviewing the evidence submitted by the police, determined there were sufficient grounds to keep the suspects in custody. Consequently, the Criminal Court ordered the two men to be remanded for 30 days as the investigation continues.
