Maldives Police Service has towed a total of 150 motorcycles from busy roads as part of an ongoing operation to alleviate traffic.
The Police launched the initiative on December 19, targeting key areas, including Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Ameenee Magu, Majeedhee Magu, Orchid Magu, Ameer Ahmed Magu, Sosun Magu, as well as the vicinity of the IGMH and Villimale’ ferry terminal.
According to officials, the operation aims to address the growing problem of vehicles obstructing traffic flow. As part of the drive, police confirmed that 159 vehicles have been towed so far, with motorcycles forming the majority.
Owners of towed vehicles are given a seven-day window to retrieve their property. If vehicles remain unclaimed after two months, police will seek to cancel their registration through the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Authorities also confirmed that deregistered vehicles are being systematically removed.
Police have called on the public to cooperate with their efforts to streamline traffic and thanked citizens for their ongoing support.
