Police have confiscated the mobile phone of Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

In a statement released to the media, the police confirmed that Fazeel’s phone was confiscated in connection with a case linked to the Binveriya Scheme. The operation was conducted under a court order as part of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation also involves Fazeel’s brother, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, who served as the Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) at the time of the alleged acquisition. Authorities are probing allegations that Mohamed Fazeel obtained land from Hulhumalé without meeting the required eligibility criteria for the scheme.

Both Mohamed Fazeel and Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed were suspended from their respective posts when the allegations surfaced. Following his suspension, Ibrahim Fazul resigned as HDC Managing Director to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

Police, acting on a court order, also raided Ibrahim Fazul’s residence and confiscated several items as part of the investigation.

Additionally, the police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are examining allegations of corruption in the allocation of land under the Binveriya Scheme. This includes claims of land being granted to individuals who did not meet the scheme's eligibility requirements, as well as alleged irregularities in the allotment of Vinares flats.

The Prosecutor General’s Office has also called for a comprehensive investigation into these matters.
