Utility Regulatory Authority (URA) has inaugurated its co-operative society and issued licences for permanent operations at a ceremony held on December 26.
The event was graced by the Minister of State for Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Ali Faris Yoosuf, who presided over the inauguration.
Speaking at the event, Minister Faris emphasised the significance of the development, describing it as a pivotal moment for the URA. He noted that the establishment of the co-operative society and the issuance of permanent operating licences represented substantial progress in enhancing the efficiency and quality of utility services available to the public.
The URA, established in 2020, has been critical in advancing the utility sector through initiatives such as setting service standards and monitoring the performance of providers. The introduction of permanent operating licences is expected to streamline operations and foster accountability within the sector.
During the ceremony, licences were granted to several utility service providers, enabling them to commence permanent operations under the provisions of the URA Act. The move has been hailed as a promising development for the country's utility sector, reflecting significant progress in regulatory practices and service quality improvements.
In concluding remarks, the URA extended congratulations to the recipients of the licences and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the utility sector.
