The Maldives National University (MNU) has granted financial assistance to 14 individuals for research and book writing projects, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to academic advancement and creativity.
Among the beneficiaries, ten received grants for research, while four were supported in their book-writing endeavours. This programme, initiated in 2014, seeks to foster a research-oriented environment within the university and encourage innovative academic projects.
MNU stated that full-time students pursuing higher degrees are also eligible for financial aid. Grants are awarded through a stringent evaluation process overseen by the Research Grants Committee and the Research and Book Writing Grants Committee, which assess proposals against established criteria.
Book writing grants are allocated in three tiers:
· Less than MVR 10,000 for smaller projects.
· MVR 10,000 to MVR 50,000 for medium-scale works.
· MVR 50,000 to MVR 100,000 for extensive projects.
Research grants are similarly categorised:
· MVR 10,000 for smaller-scale research.
· MVR 10,001 to MVR 100,000 for medium-sized projects.
· MVR 100,001 to MVR 1,000,000 for large-scale research initiatives.
In the initial grant round this year, MNU disbursed MVR 1.8 million to employees and students across various faculties for research purposes. Additionally, MNU has allocated a total of MVR 267,500 for book writing and publication projects.
