The People's National Congress (PNC) has called to expediate the release of findings from ongoing corruption investigations and demanded action against those implicated in the alleged misconduct.

PNC, in a recent statement, reminded the public that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s election was driven by expectations of a transparent and accountable Government. The party stressed that addressing corruption and probing allegations linked to the previous administration were central to the current Government’s mandate.

Citing progress made by independent institutions, the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, and the Maldives Police Service, PNC acknowledged strides in investigating cases of corruption.

Reflecting on past challenges, PNC noted that corruption allegations during the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government in 2023 had faced political interference, which hindered investigative agencies from fulfilling their duties. This history, the party claimed, emphasises the importance of safeguarding investigations from external influences.

The party also stressed the need for the ongoing investigations to move forward without delay, emphasising that transparency through the public disclosure of findings is crucial for restoring confidence in governance.

State-owned enterprises such as the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation are among the entities being scrutinised for alleged irregularities during the previous administration. Senior officials from these corporations have been implicated in several cases under review.

PNC reaffirmed its support for Government initiatives to combat corruption, asserting that transparency and integrity are vital to democratic governance. They urged the Administration to demonstrate its commitment to these principles by ensuring that accountability remains a top priority.
