The Maldives Zakat House has reported that the largest portion of its medical aid in November 2024 was allocated to brain surgery, amounting to 34.1 per cent of the total MVR 1.08 million disbursed for medical treatment.

According to the monthly report released by the Zakat House, the remaining funds were distributed across other medical treatments, with 11.8 per cent allocated for cancer treatment, 9.5 per cent for heart surgery, 3.5 per cent for organ transplants, and the remaining 41.1 per cent directed towards various other medical conditions. Aid was also extended to applicants who had submitted requests in October.

Beyond medical assistance, the report noted that MVR 12,000 was spent on other essential needs, while MVR 273,410 went towards administrative staff salaries, and MVR 13,770 was allocated for Zakat awareness campaigns.

Director General of Maldives Zakat House, Izzaddheen Adnan, recently emphasised the importance of increasing Zakat awareness campaigns to boost contributions to Zakat-al-Mal, which plays a crucial role in funding such aid initiatives.

The Maldives Zakat House, established on 18th December 2023 under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, publishes monthly Zakat statistics to ensure transparency and accountability in its operations.
