President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt condolences to the people of the United States and the family of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100.
In a post on X, President Dr Muizzu conveyed the Maldivian Government's and people's deep sorrow, extending sympathies to the American people, their government and, particularly, to President Carter's family. He also noted the profound impact Carter had had both during and after his presidency.
Former President Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was widely recognised for his commitment to international diplomacy, particularly his role in brokering the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. Although his presidency faced significant challenges, Carter’s post-presidential life became a hallmark of service, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts in human rights and conflict resolution.
President Dr Muizzu’s tribute joins a chorus of international condolences as world leaders and communities reflect on Carter’s contributions.
