Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has stated that only one per cent of the 20 million people who express interest in visiting the Maldives actually make the trip.

Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree highlighted that search engine data reveals significant global interest in the Maldives as a travel destination.

However, he noted that despite this interest, several barriers prevent potential visitors from finalising their trips. These include limited availability at preferred resorts, inadequate flight connections, and other logistical challenges.

Given budget constraints, Shiuree highlighted that MMPRC prioritises digital marketing campaigns, as they offer better results and wider reach compared to traditional travel fairs. He noted that these strategies have proven effective in attracting potential tourists.

The corporation also acknowledged that one of the key challenges in Maldivian tourism is the imbalance between supply and demand, with the increase in accommodation options outpacing the growth in tourist arrivals.

Despite these hurdles, the Maldives continues to shine on the global stage, having welcomed two million tourists this year and securing the title of the World's Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year.
