Regional Airports has developed detailed concepts for newly planned airports and has already attracted interest from potential investors.
Speaking to local media, Regional Airports Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen stated that the Government is actively working to secure financing for these projects to ensure their successful implementation.
He confirmed that comprehensive plans have been prepared for several proposed airports, including Alif Alif Mathiveri Airport, with all necessary documents ready for submission to the Economic Council for review and approval.
Mubeen highlighted that investors have expressed interest in many of the airports yet to begin construction, and the Government will make final decisions on project allocations and development strategies after evaluating the proposals.
In addition, master plans are being developed in collaboration with local councils to integrate business opportunities and promote sustainable economic growth in the islands where these airports will be located.
Currently, the Maldives operates 19 airports, comprising five international and 14 domestic airports. Four additional domestic airports are under construction.
Looking ahead, the Government plans to develop 20 more airports, including those already under construction, to further enhance connectivity and regional development across the Maldives.
