The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has announced that the construction of four towers comprising 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruviya housing scheme will be completed by February 2025. The remaining towers are expected to be completed by June 2025.
The project, launched during the previous administration, is part of the second phase of Hulhumalé's housing development and is being constructed by two Indian companies contracted by FDC.
According to the corporation, the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th towers of Aman Udhares will be completed by the second week of February and fully equipped with all necessary amenities by March 2025.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the recipient list of the 4,000 flats under the scheme. Out of 20,607 applicants, the initial list was announced, but over 7,500 individuals raised concerns and filed complaints regarding irregularities. Additionally, more than 300 complaints were formally submitted to the ACC, alleging potential corruption.
Following an investigation, the ACC revealed that 59.6 per cent of those selected did not meet the eligibility requirements, while 20.7 per cent of the applications were found to have no issues.
The Gedhoruviya housing project remains a significant initiative aimed at addressing housing shortages in the Maldives, and authorities continue to address concerns to ensure transparency and fairness in the allocation process.
