The energisation of the 132kV substation in Hulhumalé Phase 2 has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the reliability and capacity of the nation’s power network.

Hussain Fahmy, Managing Director of the State Electric Company (STELCO), lauded the engineers and staff involved, speaking of their exceptional dedication and professionalism in completing the project with minimal power disruptions. He noted their commitment as instrumental in achieving this milestone.

A 132kV substation serves as a crucial element in the electricity transmission and distribution network. It acts as a hub, stepping down high-voltage electricity from power plants to levels suitable for local distribution. The "132kV" designation reflects the substation's capacity to manage and distribute electricity at 132 kilovolts, ensuring efficient and reliable power transfer across long distances. Such substations play an essential role in maintaining grid stability, minimising energy losses, and meeting growing energy demands.

The expansion of this facility is anticipated to bolster the reliability and efficiency of the power network, benefitting both businesses and households. That the project was completed with minimal power disruptions is a testament to meticulous planning and execution.

Fahmy also expressed his gratitude to the public for their patience and support throughout the process. Additionally, he recognised the contributions of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, attributing the president’s visionary leadership and unwavering support as factors in the accomplishment.
