President to address Parliament's first session on February 6

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will deliver his inaugural address to Parliament on 6 February 2025, outlining the state of the nation and proposing improvements, the Parliament Secretariat announced on Thursday.

Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has directed preparations for the first parliamentary session of the year, which is constitutionally mandated to begin with the President's address.

Following the presidential address, parliamentary procedures require the minority leader to present a response within 14 days.

Before the inaugural session, Parliament will convene two extraordinary sessions this on 16 and 20 February to address urgent vacancies in key independent commissions.
