Chinese Foreign Minister pays courtesy call on President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday at the President’s Office, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expediting development projects to address the key priorities of the Maldives.

During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu identified social housing and road development as pressing needs for the Maldivian people, emphasising the importance of expediting infrastructure projects under existing agreements and MOUs. He also outlined the current Administration’s focus on economic diversification in agriculture and fisheries, seeking China’s support to advance these critical areas.

In response, Minister Wang Yi underscored China’s readiness to fast-track key infrastructure projects in the Maldives, describing the Maldives-China partnership as a model of effective collaboration between nations, regardless of their size.

Both parties expressed mutual gratitude and dedication to strengthening ties, reaffirming their commitment to advancing the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership established during President Dr Muizzu's state visit to China.
