President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will undertake an official visit to Estonia from January 13–16, 2025, marking the first visit to Estonia by a sitting Maldivian President.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the President's Office announced that the visit, undertaken at the invitation of Estonian President Dr Alar Karis, aims to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore collaborative opportunities, with a particular focus on innovation and digital transformation.

During his visit, President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to meet Estonian President Dr Alar Karis, key ministers, and the President of the Estonian Parliament. He will also visit the University of Tartu, a globally recognised institution ranked among the top 1 per cent in clinical medicine.

Discussions will focus on Estonia's leadership in digital governance and e-services, areas where the Maldives seeks to benefit from Estonia's expertise.

Digital transformation is a central priority of the current Administration, underscored by efforts to develop a comprehensive Digital Transformation Roadmap and Strategy. These initiatives aim to establish the Maldives as a leading digital economy, targeting a contribution of 15 per cent of the nation’s GDP from digital sectors by 2030.

The President will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, and other senior government officials. Additionally, a private delegation comprising leaders from the Maldivian tech community will join the visit.
