Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across Male’ today, prompting the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to launch immediate drainage operations in the capital city.

The MNDF Fire and Rescue Service deployed teams across affected areas, setting up pumps in the West Park area to combat rising water levels. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that Male’ City Council installed sandbags at 56 vulnerable houses overnight and will extend these protective measures to additional areas today.

A similar flooding incident earlier this month had caused MVR 2.2 million in property damage across the capital.
