Maldives Passport remains South Asia's top travel document

The Maldives passport has been ranked as South Asia's most powerful travel document for another consecutive year, holding the 53rd position globally with access to 94 visa-free destinations.
This achievement, announced by Maldives Immigration, reflects the country’s continued dominance in regional mobility and its growing diplomatic influence on the global stage.
In the latest Henley Passport Index, the Maldives improved from its 2024 ranking of 57th, where it also provided access to 94 destinations. Comparatively, in 2023, the Maldives held the 61st position with visa-free access to 89 countries, showcasing a steady upward trajectory in global mobility.
Within South Asia, the Maldives outpaces its regional counterparts in passport strength. India ranks 85th globally, offering access to 57 visa-free destinations, followed by Bhutan at 90th with 52 destinations. Bangladesh stands at 100th with access to 40 countries, Nepal at 101st with 39, Pakistan at 103rd with 33, and Afghanistan at 106th, providing visa-free access to just 26 countries.
Globally, the top passport belong to Singapore, granting visa-free access to 195 countries. The Maldives' steady climb in the rankings highlights the success of its diplomatic efforts and bilateral agreements. By expanding access to more countries, the nation continues to enhance global mobility for its citizens and strengthen its international presence.
