The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced the printing of new MVR 100 banknotes to address a current shortage in circulation, with plans to release them to the market on January 19, 2025.

The newly printed notes, signed by former Governor Ali Hashim and dated July 7, 2024, feature a modified design that incorporates the Maldivian rufiyaa symbol on both sides of the note.

This reprint follows previous currency interventions by the MMA, including a similar release of MVR 100 notes in September 2018, aimed at maintaining adequate currency supply in the market.

The MVR 100 denomination is part of the ‘Ran Dhihafaheh’ series, which was introduced during President Abdulla Yameen's administration to commemorate the nation's 50th independence anniversary. This series encompasses seven denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 rufiyaa.

The MMA regularly monitors currency circulation and initiates such reprints when stocks of any denomination fall below required levels to ensure smooth monetary operations in the Maldivian economy.
