President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has participated in a roundtable discussion with the Estonian Digital Advisory Council focusing on the country’s digital transformation and its potential applications for the Maldives.

The meeting, held at the PoCo Pop and Contemporary Art Museum in Tallinn, included members of the Maldivian delegation, alongside representatives from the country's tech sector.

During the discussion, President Dr Muizzu outlined his Administration’s plans to establish a digital-first Maldives, with a focus on leveraging technology to improve accessibility, sustainability, and resilience across the country. He emphasised the need for Government services that are not only citizen-centric but also accessible to Maldivians, including those living in remote atolls, by harnessing digital tools to overcome geographical challenges.

President Dr Alar Karis expressed support for the Maldives’ commitment to digital transformation, noting the success of Estonia’s own digital advancements. He encouraged further collaboration between the two nations, stressing the potential for mutual growth through shared innovations and the advancement of digital solutions.

The discussions also centred on the vital role of private sector involvement in driving digital infrastructure and the importance of fostering STEM education to support long-term innovation. The Estonian Digital Advisory Council expressed a strong willingness to assist the Maldives in its digital journey, offering expertise and guidance to help redesign services and implement best practices.

Following the meeting, President Dr Muizzu toured the PoCo Pop and Contemporary Art Museum, where Estonian IT visionary Mr Linnar Viik provided a detailed overview of the museum’s collection and artwork. The meeting marked another step in strengthening bilateral ties and deepening collaboration between the two countries on digital and technological advancements.
