Member of Parliament for Funadhoo constituency, Mohamed Mamdhooh, has stated that the government requires stakeholder support and cooperation to resolve the country's long-standing dollar crisis.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, Mamdhooh said that the recent legal amendments to eliminate dollar shortages, combat the black market, and strengthen the Maldivian rufiyaa would soon show positive results for citizens. He called for stakeholder collaboration to ensure the success of these initiatives.

Mamdhooh explained that eliminating the dollar shortage was essential to increase the value of the Maldivian rufiyaa, expressing optimism that the recent legal amendments would guide the economy in the right direction.

He predicted a decrease in prices and relief for international travellers currently facing difficulties in obtaining dollars. According to Mamdhooh, continued implementation and strengthening of these laws could resolve this long-standing national issue and ease the financial burden on Maldivians. He emphasised that achieving these goals would require both legislative improvements and national-level cooperation from stakeholders.

Mamdhooh noted that the dollar black market has been a persistent issue that no previous government has adequately addressed; he highlighted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, in collaboration with the Parliament, is undertaking significant efforts to resolve these issues for the benefit of Maldivian citizens.

Mamdhooh expressed confidence that citizens would soon experience the positive effects of these changes, particularly through the implementation of the Foreign Currency Act.
