The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has disbursed MVR 1.7 million to fishermen, in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge.

According to MIFCO, the payments correspond to 153 metric tonnes of fish procured over the two-day period. Purchases were made at key facilities across the nation, with the following breakdown:

The initiative stems from President  Dr Muizzu’s efforts to resolve ongoing delays in dues owed to fishermen. His leadership on the issue has reportedly encouraged increased fishing activity, with more boats taking to the waters.
