Maafaru International Airport recorded 98 private jet movements in 2024, according to Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL).
The airport, now the second-largest private jet hub in the Maldives after Velana International Airport, reopened in December 2024 following a four-month closure. The closure, from June to September 2024, allowed for the extension of the runway by 650 meters and the development of additional services.
Following the reopening, Maafaru Airport served approximately 50 private jet in December 2024 alone.
The General Manager Airports at IASL, Mumthaz Ali, noted that the high number of private jet services underscores the airport’s growing prominence as a luxury travel hub. Efforts to further enhance the airport’s services are already underway.
Tourists traveling to top Maldives resorts, including Velaa Private Island, Soneva Jani, and Cheval Blanc Randheli, continue to access these destinations through Maafaru Airport.
