The CEO of Javaabu Private Limited, Mohamed Jailam, has emphasised the need for the Maldives to expand education in the field of technology and develop policies to effectively utilise Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Jailam made these comments following his participation in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official trip to Estonia, a country renowned for its technological advancements.

Speaking on MMTV Bodu Khabaru programme, Jailam shared his experiences from Estonia, noting that the lack of trust in technology in the Maldives is mainly due to a lack of awareness.

Highlighting that 60 per cent of the Estonian population voted online in elections, Jailam explained that this trust in technology stems from their familiarity with it. In contrast, he noted that trust in technology would be a significant challenge in the Maldives due to low digital literacy.

Jailam attributed Estonia's success to its inclusive education system and strong government support for the private sector. He stressed the need for the Maldives to develop policies that enable the full use of AI, as the country currently lacks the frameworks to decide which decisions can be made by AI and which require human intervention. In Estonia, AI is used across sectors, even assisting ministers in parliament.

Praising President Dr Muizzu's efforts to digitise the Maldives, Jailam stated that Estonia’s approach to technology offers a valuable example for strengthening the Maldives' digital infrastructure and policies.
