Ahmed Zareer, Managing Director of the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation has announced that the Maldives will launch a new brand identity and participate in major international seafood fairs to promote its fisheries globally this year.

In an interview with local media, Zareer explained that the corporation will identify and support small and medium-sized enterprises that produce fishery products in the Maldives. The corporation has immediate plans to collaborate with local councils over the next week to assess producer challenges and develop support mechanisms.

The initiative aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's campaign promises and aims to address market access challenges faced by local producers. Zareer indicated that the corporation will participate in major international seafood fairs to showcase Maldivian fishery products.

Since its establishment on February 4, 2024, the corporation has focused on developing governance policies and creating a comprehensive five-year business plan. Its main objectives include introducing new fishery products, increasing production, expanding foreign market access and promoting fish products.

Zareer added that the corporation has concentrated on establishing necessary corporate governance policies and identifying key requirements to achieve its strategic objectives over the next five years.
