Finance Ministry reports MVR 725 million revenue in first two weeks of 2025

The Ministry of Finance and Planning has reported total revenue of MVR 725 million for the period from January 1 to January 16, 2025.
According to the latest weekly statistics released by the Ministry, total revenue stood at MVR 725 million, while total expenditure, including loan repayments and interest payments, amounted to MVR 261.4 million during the same period. The largest portion of expenditure was allocated to loan repayments, which accounted for MVR 122 million, followed by MVR 17.8 million contributed to the Sovereign Development Fund.
Tax revenue accounted for MVR 544 million of the total revenue, with the remaining MVR 176.2 million generated from non-tax sources. Among tax collections, General Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue stood at MVR 98 million, while Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) contributed MVR 125 million.
Expenditure during the first two weeks of 2025 was significantly lower compared to the same period last year. The State spent MVR 261.4 million this year, a sharp decline from the MVR 828 million recorded in the first two weeks of 2024. While overall expenditure decreased, spending on Aasandha increased from MVR 19.7 million last year to MVR 31.3 million this year.
