HA. Thakandhoo is set to receive significant infrastructure upgrades, including a harbour expansion project and the introduction of RTL ferry services before Ramadan.

At a meeting with Thakandhoo residents during his ongoing visit to North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that work to address harbour space constraints would commence in April, incorporating measures to combat coastal erosion whilst preserving the island's natural aesthetics.

RTL ferry services will connect Thakandhoo and Marandhoo before Ramadan, reflecting the Administration's commitment to equitable service provision.

President Dr Muizzu acknowledged that previous harbour development projects had not met residents' expectations and noted the facility's inadequacies were apparent upon arrival at the island.

The President highlighted Thakandhoo's significance in developing Maldivian national identity, noting that the Government has designated it as a nationally important island. Despite its modest population, he emphasised that Thakandhoo's development would be prioritised under the policy of preserving national history.

The presidential visit forms part of a policy enabling first-hand assessment of community needs across the Maldives.
