President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated eight significant development projects during his visit to HA. Ihavandhoo on Wednesday.

The visit saw the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Fisheries Complex, with Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam laying the foundation stone. This project, along with harbour improvements, represents a substantial investment of MVR 474 million.

Enhancing public services was also a key focus. Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan launched local facilities for National ID card printing and passport issuance. Ihavandhoo Council President Ahmed Sabah welcomed these improvements, emphasising how they will significantly reduce travel expenses for residents who previously had to travel to Male' or nearby islands for these essential services.

Banking services in Ihavandhoo will also improve, due to an agreement signed by Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) to establish ATM services. Head of Distribution Ibrahim Suhail represented MIB at the signing.

Two major infrastructure projects were also initiated. Road Development Corporation's Managing Director Brigadier General (Retd) Ali Zuhair signed agreements for a new hospital and the modernisation of the Huravee Football Ground. These agreements were also signed by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu respectively.

Community sports facilities also received a boost. The President inaugurated two Island Council projects: the Hinna Futsal pitch and the Huravee Outdoor Volleyball Court. President Dr Muizzu even joined local youth in trying out the new facilities, showcasing their immediate value to the community.

At a meeting with residents, President Dr Muizzu outlined future plans for Ihavandhoo. These include the introduction of dialysis services in February, plans for 200 housing units, solutions to current harbour challenges, and the expansion of educational services.

The President's visit was marked by strong community engagement, with a large turnout of residents welcoming him to Ihavandhoo.
