For the first time, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) will be held outside Malé, with Fuvahmulah City set to host the event on May 2, 2025.

Organised in partnership with Fuvahmulah City Council and the Women’s Development Committee, the event is a significant expansion of the country’s largest running event.

Dhiraagu announced that the race aims to establish Fuvahmulah as a key destination for runners while strengthening the running community across the Maldives. Participants will compete on an internationally certified course, experiencing the island’s unique natural landscape and cultural heritage.

Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq welcomed the initiative, highlighting the opportunity to promote the city as a sports and tourism hub. He expressed confidence that hosting the event would attract both local and international runners, further showcasing Fuvahmulah’s potential as a premier running destination.

Dhiraagu’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ali Riyaz, described the expansion as a new chapter for DMRR, making the event more accessible to participants beyond the Greater Malé Region. He emphasised the company’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and supporting local tourism through the race.

Recognised as the Maldives’ only international road race, DMRR is listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar and features a World Athletics-certified route.
