Maldives recorded an increase in its tourism occupancy rate in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to the latest report from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The overall occupancy rate rose from 57.6 per cent in 2023 to 59.1 per cent in 2024, with resorts driving the growth. Resort occupancy increased from 66.3 per cent to 71.2 per cent, while safari vessels saw a rise from 23.5 per cent to 26.3 per cent.

In contrast, guesthouses and hotels experienced a decline in occupancy although the overall occupancy rose. Guesthouse occupancy dropped from 42.7 per cent in 2023 to 35 per cent in 2024, while hotels saw a decrease from 35 per cent to 28.4 per cent.

MMA’s statistics also highlighted a slight expansion in accommodation capacity, with the total number of beds increasing by 177, bringing the total to 61,739 by the end of 2024.

The rise in occupancy, particularly in resorts and safari vessels, continues to showcase the Maldives' strong appeal as a top-tier travel destination and highlights the continued growth of its tourism sector, which remains a vital contributor to the national economy.
