A 60-year-old Maldivian woman has had her driving license suspended following a fatal accident on Sinamale’ Bridge highway that resulted in the death of a Bangladeshi man on February 1, 2025.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:19 a.m. when the victim crashed his motorcycle into a traffic cone placed to cordon off part of the Hulhumale’ to Malé lane for solar panel installation. Moments after the fall, he was run over by another motorcycle, whose rider failed to stop at the scene.

The man was rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé but was pronounced dead at 9:05 a.m.

CCTV footage of the accident, which surfaced on social media on Monday night, confirmed the sequence of events. The footage also showed a large pool of blood at the crash site, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan confirmed on Tuesday that the woman had been questioned, her motorcycle towed, and her license suspended. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
