Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has identified President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's prevention of national bankruptcy and economic stabilisation as one of his Administration's most significant achievements.
Speaking at a special forum discussing the Presidential Address to Parliament at the Islamic University of Maldives, Minister Saeed detailed the economic challenges faced by the administration. The forum featured four cabinet ministers including Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, and Housing Minister Dr Abdullah Muttalib.
Minister Saeed revealed that the Administration inherited an economy in severe distress, with a national debt of MVR 125 billion, of which 60 per cent was accumulated during the previous administration.
"Most of this debt was non-revenue generating. They printed MVR 8 billion, devaluing our currency. I have not seen any other administration work so meticulously from the President's Office to address these issues in such a short time," he added.
All four ministers at the forum unanimously agreed that President Dr Muizzu's strategic vision has led to significant developmental progress for the Maldives. They also praised the comprehensive nature of the President's parliamentary address.
