President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated new leadership for the Elections Commission (EC), putting forward Mohamed Zahid as President and Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed as Vice President. The nominations were presented during today's Parliamentary session.
The President's letter seeking parliamentary approval for both appointments was read on the Parliament floor, after which Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim referred the matter to the Parliament's Independent Institutions Committee for review.
Mohamed Zahid, the presidential nominee for EC's top position, brings experience from his previous role as Vice President of the Human Rights Commission (HRCM). His proposed deputy, Abdurrahman Salah Rashid, is already familiar with the Commission's operations, having served as both Director and Acting Secretary of the EC.
Both appointments to the Elections Commission were made on January 26 and await parliamentary approval before being finalised.
