President Dr Muizzu has requested BML and MMA to approve an additional USD 1,500 transaction limit on BML debit cards for Umrah pilgrims during Ramadan 1446, on top of existing foreign currency limits. The initiative comes amid broader economic reforms addressing dollar shortages, with early success shown through USD 25 million already converted through official channels as of January 29. The Government plans further changes through 2026, including doubling foreign currency allowances for travelers to USD 1,000 and increasing credit card limits to USD 1,400.
