Defence State Minister Muaz Haleem has stated that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's vision includes strengthening the Maldives' military capabilities to assure allied nations of the country's commitment to Indian Ocean security.
Speaking at the Defence Ministers' meeting held on the sidelines during the Aero Space India Exhibition, State Minister Muaz emphasised the importance of strengthening defence sector relationships. He noted that today's evolving world faces both military threats and challenges from cybersecurity and rapidly developing warfare technologies.
Muaz highlighted the strong relationship between India and the Maldives, acknowledging India as a globally notable nation in defence production.
He explained that the Maldives' security extends beyond military readiness, encompassing maritime security, climate change adaptation, and combating transnational organised crime. These elements contribute to ensuring security and peace for all, with national and regional security remaining perpetually important.
According to Muaz, the President's defence sector vision encompasses strengthening capabilities and protecting independence, sovereignty, and autonomy. This would give regional allies and other nations confidence in the Maldivian military's ability to ensure Indian Ocean security.
The State Minister stressed that all nations need to strengthen bilateral relations and collaborate across various sectors, describing this as the path towards a prosperous and peaceful future.
