Police remand four in Hithadhoo assault case, minor released

Four of the five suspects arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of a man in Hithadhoo, Addu City have been remanded in police custody, while the 15-year-old boy has been released into family custody.

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday and was discovered by police officers on patrol around 1:35 a.m.

According to police, officers were patrolling near Milo Stadium in Hithadhoo when they noticed a group of individuals fleeing the area.

Upon further inspection, they found a 37-year-old Maldivian man tied to a Joali, with half of his hair shaved off and visible injuries. The victim was promptly assisted, and all five suspects were taken into custody at the scene.

The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Ali Maazin Hassan, 22-year-old Ashraf Mohamed, 19-year-old Mohamed Yaeesh Azaad, and 20-year-old Samah Thaufeeq.

When presented before the court, Samah and Ashraf were remanded for 15 days, while Yaeesh and Maazin were remanded for seven days. The 15-year-old suspect was not taken to court and was released into the custody of his family.

The case remains under investigation as police continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the assault.
